Do you mean add to the menu bar on the left hand side? Where all the other items are. If so then it can be done. Search out the Google Maps add-on that Ben created. I looked through this and reckon you could quite easily reverse engineer that and create your own.
Thinking about it further you might want to add this a feature request as I know it's something I'd use for our guys and I'm sure others could too.
