Re: Additional Agent Views / Role's

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your interest in the new Labels functionality.  Our first version of this focused on the basics and how these Roles/Labels tied into the Standard Solution Package (SSP) content and Policies for managing how this content (specifically Monitoring) gets applied to agents.  We also wanted to make sure we provided a "broad brush stroke" of content that applied easily to a variety of versions of products found in the field such as Exchange 2003, 2007, 2010 (some of the Exchange content may even works on Exchange 2000 and v5.5). Nevertheless we agree that there is certainly room for expansion and over time we will be expanding this concept.  I'm sure if we asked all of our customers what Labels they wanted we would have a pretty extensive list in short order.  As such we have been discussing the possibility of opening this concept up to allow customers to create their own labels/roles, but if we go this route, and I can offer no promises at this point, it would likely be a v6.4 feature.

Anyway, to address your immediate request I will point out that we do have Views built and included with the SSP for detecting Virtual Guest systems including VMware, Hyper V, and VirtualBox (see the View called "zz[SYS] HW - Virtual Guest").  You could easily copy this approach and create multiple separate Views for each virtualization technology you manage.  Further, the View called "zz[SYS] Role - Exchange Server" does detect Exchange Mailbox Servers, since it is detecting the Exchange Information Store service which is a requirement for that Exchange Role.  Finally, the Monitoring content does include elements for Edge Transport, POP3, IMAP, and SMTP service and performance monitoring which get applied to servers according to what we detect running there.  So if a machine is an Edge Transport server the dynamic nature of the Monitoring content will pick up those additional services, and performance counters that exist.

I will keep a running list of requests like this and present them as enhancements to the product.  Look for improvements like this in future updates to Kaseya and enjoy 6.3 and the new SSP content pack.

Regards,

Matt
