Kaseya's acquisition of Rover Apps... what are your thoughts?

Since the announcement is a comment-free sticky, I'd figured someone should start a discussion around what folks think of this latest Rover Apps acquisition.

Left Hug So... what do y'all think? Right Hug

We're pretty thrilled... we've been looking at MDM / BYOD solutions for a hot second now, and the prospect of an already-robust solution being available to us directly from Kaseya and (eventually, I'd hope) available in the "single pane of glass" is very exciting!

I'm a fan of this approach (i.e. standalone, sandboxed app with controlled access to corporate resources) vs. other approaches that more directly (attempt, but mostly fail) to dive into the mobile OS and exert a degree of control over it to accommodate ActiveSync configuration profiles, security profiles, and application pushes.

The only shortcoming I see at this point is lack of Windows Phone support, per http://roverapps.com/devices/

  • iPhone and iPod Touch (iOS 5 or higher)
  • iPad (iOS 5 or higher)
  • Android devices (OS 2.1 or higher)
  • Windows Phone 8 (coming soon)

Can't wait to see what Kaseya does with this new asset, and when pricing will become available.  Most importantly: will an Agent still be an Agent (i.e. will a mobile device draw from the same Kaseya device license pool as normal servers/workstations)?

Oh, and I think I figured out Kaseya's acquisition strategy!  Wink See below:
